Participatory monitoring is a powerful tool to prevent and solve conflicts. The CAO gained extensive experience in this field during its involvement in the Yanacocha Project in Peru. The CAO has produced a series of monographs with lessons learned from its work around the Yanacocha mining project. This advisory piece takes these lessons one step further by providing hands-on guidance for implementing successful participatory monitoring programs. The report provides examples of practical models to achieve participation in different environmental, financial and governance contexts.
