Outreach for Portuguese-Speaking Audiences: Understanding and Accessing Independent Accountability Mechanisms

On June 11, CAO joined six other independent accountability mechanisms (IAMs) to co-host an open, online outreach seminar for Portuguese-speaking audiences to increase awareness about accountability mechanisms. The seminar, “Direito de Reclamar: mecanismos de reclamação sobre projetos de financiamento internacional,” was streamed across social media platforms, attracting more than 150 views on YouTube alone.
CAO’s Senior Compliance Specialist, Andrea Prado Lima, represented CAO during the event and shared the critical role of IAM advisory efforts to help catalyze learning for international finance institutions on key environmental and social issues.
CAO regularly conducts outreach events with other IAMs to help enhance knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms among stakeholders. Outreach is particularly important to help strengthen our accessibility to potential project-affected communities. Similar online outreach events have been held for the following regions: Asia; Latin America and the Caribbean; and the Middle East and North Africa.
*Organization of the event was led by the IAM of the IDB Group: Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (MICI). In addition to CAO, coordinating IAMs also included: Accountability Mechanism (AM) of the World Bank; Complaints Mechanism of the European Investment Bank; joint Independent Complaints Mechanism of DEG Invest, FMO, and Proparco; Project-Affected People’s Mechanism (PPM) of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB); and Social and Environmental Compliance Unit (SECU) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
