
John Katunga
Specialist | Dispute Resolution
John Katunga, a national of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a Dispute Resolution Specialist at CAO based in Dakar, Senegal. He holds an MA in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University, an MA and a BA in Political Science from the University of Kisangani, and is a former Fellow at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
Before joining CAO, John served as Africa Advisor for Peacebuilding and Justice at Catholic Relief Services (CRS), focusing on human rights, mediation, dialogue, and reconciliation across East, Central, and West Africa. He has trained women and community leaders in negotiation and mediation and held roles with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the Open Society Institute. He has also led training for national parliaments, military, and police forces, and served as Acting Executive Director of Nairobi Peace Initiative–Africa.
